Description on Amazon.com
My Search For The Truth – a prolegomenon addresses three issues. First, it explains how and why a well-educated professional was transformed from an atheistic humanist, whose ultimate authority lay in the consensus among establishment scientists and scholars, to a Bible-believing Christian, whose final authority lies in the Bible, which he describes as the Word of God written. Second, it explains how and why the above transformation led him to change the nature of his epistemological approach to seeking and understanding the truth about everything. Lastly, it explains why we must regard the Scriptures as, not merely an interesting collection of tribal fables, legends, memories, myths, poetry, etc., but rather as the Creator of Universe’s Users’ Manual, which is trustworthy in all its particulars, and from which every man, woman, and child on Earth can benefit. As such, it forms the basis for all the author’s other writings.
My Search for the Truth – a prolegomenon is written primarily for Christian pastors, teachers, small group leaders, and other influential thinkers, Although targeted to a Christian audience, it also provides answers to the tough questions that intellectually curious proponents of other faiths – or even no faith – may be asking.
My Search For The Truth – a Prolegomenon is highly structured and referenced with over 100 footnotes for the serious inquirer. It will help the reader better understand and explain to others:
-
- What are the major competing views of reality?
- What is truth, what are its sources, and how is it organized?
- What are the limits of human inquiry and knowledge?
- How does one distinguish between false religion and true religion?
- How can one reconcile the glaring differences between what the Bible says and what most modern scientists and scholars say about almost everything?
The author, John Holbrook Jr. is a retired architect and planner who has extensive experience in organizing information, people, and things in sensible, workable, and, if possible, elegant ways. In addition, he has pursued a life-long interest in ancient chronology, ancient history, natural history, and the history of science. Although he describes himself, not as an expert in any of the subjects about which he is writing, but rather as “just someone who thinks a lot about most things,” most readers will undoubtedly be interested in what he has to say.
